I love the blues. The music makes me feel good & I have a need to share that feeling. Twenty-five years ago KXCI went on the air with a blues show. But, they didn't have much music to play, so I loaned them records from my collection & offered up some related stories & such. After a couple years, the original on-air person left & for a few weeks the show was done by a couple volunteers. They asked me to join them & a few weeks after that, I was the only one to show up. I've been in the chair now for 23 years. Many Arizona blues musicians have received airplay on the Blues Review. Live performances & in-depth interviews have included Tony Uribe, Stefan George, Steve Grams, Danny Krieger, Sam Taylor, Mike Blommer, Big Pete Pearson, Bob Corritore, Hans Olson, Bill Tarsha, Arthur Migliazza, George Howard, Dave Trippy & many more. National artists that have played live and/or been interviewed on my show include John Mayall, R.L. Burnside, Nappy Brown, Cleveland Fats, King Ernest, Steve James, Paul Geremia, Homesick James, Super Chikan, The Paladins, Carey Bell, Andrew "Jr. Boy" Jones, Kenny Neal, Maria Muldaur, Theodis Ealey, James Armstrong, Janiva Magness, Phillip Walker, Sonny Rhodes, Little George Sueref, Bill Lupkin Band, Chico Chism & more. The show has become one of the highest rated shows on the station. I play a wide variety of blues styles, although not much blues/rock. I try to show how the blues relates to our daily lives & offer a lot of history, session info and stories. We also broadcast the annual blues festival in October. On a side note, I was on the original board of the Tucson Blues Society, and the original board of the Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation. I also edited the Tucson Blues Society's Blues Calendar for three years, and for several years wrote a review column for their newsletter.
